A Day on the Town

 Hey Everyone,

I'm going to open this letter with an apology. I'm laying in bed not feeling very good. Must have been something I ate this afternoon. But I wasn't able to get this out last night so I'm going to work through this evening so I can get something to you.

On Saturday, Mom and I decided to just wander around the mid-levels on the Island and just explore the narrow little streets and shops and take pictures. This area is such an interested place -- so much to see. So here we go:

We started at yet another temple. Lots of incense burning in this one. It actually started to sting my eyes after a little while. These temples are all so fascinating. None the same and yet so much in common.

A little girl just outside the temple waiting for her parents. I think she'd had enough of the smoke too.

Another fresh fruit and vegetable stand. I never grow tired of the noise and color of these places.

This city is full of crazy angles,  narrow streets, bamboo and color.

This stairway fascinated me. You'll see a couple of pictures of the electrical panel and mail boxes a little later.

I made friends with this old chines gentleman teaching people how to write chinese characters.

He finally got me to sit down and give it a try. These are the characters for "Jesus Christ"

Char's friend who took her out to dinner the other night.

In a taxi on the way to Stake Conference yesterday.

This little girl and I made friends. She liked holding my finger.

The mail boxes ..........

and electrical boxes

The very gaudy "Dior" Christmas Treee on the promenade.

I'm showing this just to show you how good I am at taking selfies.

One of the many Christmas signs all over town. Lots of size and color but just seeming to miss the idea. No mention of the birth of Christ.  But lots of glitz and pop.

I loved this. Char and I were out walking the promenade early in the morning a couple of days ago and we come around the corning to see these women all dressed up and dancing to some beautiful music. These are a bunch of women probably in their 50's and 60's who just love to dress up and dance to their favorite chinese music.

When Mom and I need a lift its off to one of our favorite mexican restaurants.

Another very big, colorful, over-the-top Christmas display. Like last week, some people bring their dogs to be the stars of their photos. I watched this little guy for I little while before I was convinced he was real.

Here are a couple more getting ready for their photograph.

It is late and I really want to get this out to you. I'll write more next time when I'm feeling a little better.
Also, I'm going into surgery this weekend for a hernia repair. I will be in the hospital for three days if all goes well (which is what I am expecting). Please say a prayer for me this weekend.

Love you, Dad and Grandpa
