Another Week

Image
Another Week I feel like we have settled into a regular routine. We work hard all week -- we get to the office around 8:30 am and leave for home around 6 pm or so. And then we sleep in on Saturday, read in the mornings and go adventuring around for the rest of the day. Sundays we go to a Chinese ward where Char will be teaching the young women (of which there are two), and I will be teaching Gospel Doctrine. We get home around 2:30 in the afternoon, eat, and then go to the park where we read and watch people walk by.  Here are a bunch of pictures from the week to help you get a little better idea of what we do. The subway under the harbor is usually very crowded when we go to work. But every once in a while (I think maybe twice) we pay a little extra to ride first class. So here is Mom enjoying. We took a trolley car ride yesterday. They call them "ding dings" there for the sound of their bells.  They are a double decker bus and we scored seats on the top deck, riding ar...

New Jobs

Dear Family, Missionary work is made up of so many pieces, the work, the commuting, the spiritual, and the fun. This week has had it all! As for "work," I finally have some. After spending these past weeks doing the best I could to be useful without any assignment, I finally have more than enough to do. My vague Government Relations is still being defined but I now have two other very different but interesting jobs.  The first one is to be the Area Content Editor for the Liahona, and a Translation Coordinator. This means that every month I am responsible to notify the assigned writer and then chase down the lead article for the local section of the Liahona. Every month the Liahona is published worldwide, but in addition to the core issue, in an attempt to meet and address the needs of local cultures and countries, every Liahona outside of the US has a center section that is more relevant for local congregations. My job is to make sure that the lead article by a member of the...

Scavenger Hunt

Image
This truly is EFY for seniors. We were busy with activities for the senior couples all week. We all went to the temple together on Wednesday night. And then against my better judgment several of us went to Five Guys afterwards (9:00 pm) for burgers, hot dogs, fries, and shakes. We didn't get home till 11pm. What has happened to my good judgment?     This was the second time we've been to the Temple since the new changes have taken place. We love the feel and spirit of the new endowment. The stronger Christ focus has added a new dimension to me (us). We are looking forward to doing initiatory work next week. We will let you know how it goes.     The title of this post reflects our activity over the last week or so (especially yesterday) where each couple has been going out and locating certain places and activities in Hong Kong (a Scavenger hunt of sorts). The couple who put this together is now gathering the pictures from everyone for ...

It Was Like Riding a Bike!

Dear Family,  Disclaimer, it was a big week so this is probably going to be too long!! But what a week it has been. We mentioned on our Sunday phone call last week that there was a possibility of us going to Cambodia. On Monday morning Dad's "boss asked us if we would mind going to Cambodia on such short noticed. He really seemed worried that we might not want to go, when really we were just trying not to look too eager. by Monday afternoon the tickets had been bought and Tuesday morning we got up early and caught a taxi to the airport. It was so fast and if we're being honest it really didn't feel real to us until we actually landed in Phnom Penh and saw the big airport sign.  I've tried to imagined so many times what it might be like to go back to Cambodia, but I never saw it being such a quickly arranged event, or one where we would go back with missionary badges and a job to do. But here we were! And it was so exciting.  In my excitement I bounded off the plan...
